The Adamawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, while clarifying the role of National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, amid growing speculation of a political shift within the party’s North-East bloc.

At a stakeholder meeting held in Hong on Tuesday, party leaders and executives across the state passed a vote of confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership. However, notable in its omission was any reference to Vice President Kashim Shettima, prompting media reports suggesting that state party stakeholders had dumped the VP in favour of Ribadu.
Mr. Salihu Mustapha, APC’s North-East Zonal Vice Chairman, praised Tinubu’s leadership, highlighting key initiatives including the proposed N70,000 minimum wage, removal of fuel subsidy, advocacy for local government autonomy, and anti-corruption efforts. He said the meeting aimed to foster unity and mobilize support for the 2027 elections.
Yusuf Captain-Buba, Chairman of the APC Reconciliation and Repositioning Committee for Adamawa Central Zone, echoed these sentiments, citing Tinubu’s strides in economic recovery and agricultural transformation. He also applauded Ribadu’s role in tackling insecurity but stopped short of referencing Vice President Shettima, fueling speculation of an internal power shift.
However, the Adamawa APC has since issued a rebuttal through its Publicity Secretary, Hon. Mohammed Abdullahi, refuting claims that the NSA was endorsed as a political alternative to the Vice President.
“The meeting in Hong was solely to galvanize support for President Tinubu’s re-election,” the statement read. “While a vote of confidence was passed on Mallam Nuhu Ribadu as a son of the state and a diligent public servant, it was never an endorsement for any political ambition.”
The party further clarified that all appointments, including Ribadu’s, remain the prerogative of President Tinubu, and warned against misrepresentations aimed at sowing division.
“We once again reiterate our endorsement of Mr. President, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the flag bearer of our great party,” the statement concluded. “We will continue to mobilize our people to ensure a resounding victory for the President in 2027”.
